Confined acoustic vibrations in nanoscale objects produce characteristic resonant modes that typically occur in the GHz regime, which are generally well described by Lamb theory. The investigation of these modes using spectroscopic techniques such as pump probe or Raman spectroscopy provides valuable insights into various physico-chemical properties at the nanoscale. Here I will introduce the concepts of Lamb theory and its applications the study of metallic and semi-conducting nano-objects.
