The process of electrolysis, when performed using green electricity, is the most promising way to produce hydrogen for the needs of the energy transition. In many situations, the hydrogen production is slow and inefficient. Bubble detachment from the electrode is an important mechanism in that context. To improve the process, modelling capabilities leading to the investigation of bubble detachment are desirable.
Another relevant production process is clean hydrogen production by pyrolisis of methane in molten metal baths. The fluid mechanical processes invloved in that case are high gas fraction bubbly flow, interaction with a form of slag and the kinetics of formation of carbon shells.
A third fluid mechanical problem is the usage of hydrogen in aviation. This requires the design of new fuel tanks. The sloshing mechanism in these tanks needs to be investagted in conjunction with the complex, turbulent process of evaporation of the liquid hydrogne phase.
